PROFICIENCY SECTION

                       PART I - GRAMMAR


This test is to show how well you can recognize and use grammatical 
structures in English.  Each question in the test is part of a 
conversation.  In each conversation, a word (or group of words) is missing.  
Following the conversation, there are four choices which might complete 
the conversation.  You are to select the word (or words) which best fit the 
conversation.

EXAMPLE  A

A: Did you send the invitation?
B: Yes, but I donīt have any idea ____ coming to the party.

         (A)   who are
         (B)   whom are
         (C)   who is
         (D)   whom is

The correct English sentence is, "Yes, but I donīt have any idea who is 
coming to the party."  Therefore, you have to mark (C) on your answer sheet.

EXAMPLE B

A:  Do you know John?
B:  Yes, I do.  He and __________ are old friends.

         (A)   me
         (B)   I
         (C)   mine
         (D)   my

The correct answer is, "Yes, I do.  He and I are old friends."  Therefore, 
you should mark (B) on your answer sheet.
